The first-ever “East Asia and Pacific Regional Public Procurement Forum”, co-hosted by PPS and the World Bank
- Around 110 participants from ADB, IsDB, GIZ and 18 countries in East Asia and Pacific region
- Accelerating Sustainable Development through Sustainable Public Procurement
- Disseminating the experience of Korea e-Procurement and Strategic Procurement Policy

The Public Procurement Service (PPS) announced that “East Asia and Pacific Regional Public Procurement Forum”, co-hosted by PPS and the World Bank, will be held in Seoul for three days from Tuesday, May 7th. With the participation of procurement experts from Korea and around the world, this event will mark the first time such a conference has taken place in the East Asia and Pacific region.

This inaugural forum will be a large-scale event with the participation of over 110 procurement experts from 18 countries in the region and from multilateral development banks such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the Islamic Development Bank.

The event was initially planned through a bilateral meeting of senior officials from PPS and the World Bank who attended the International Public Procurement Workshop hosted by PPS in April last year, and the forum is expected to serve as a catalyst for expanding cooperation between PPS and the World Bank.

Under the theme "Accelerating Sustainable Development through Sustainable Public Procurement," this forum will disseminate Korea's outstanding sustainable public procurement experiences, such as fostering the ecosystem for the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, efforts for carbon neutrality including green certification, and policies aimed at assisting socially vulnerable groups.

In particular, PPS will initiate the participants into mechanisms for monitoring indicators on sustainable public procurement and measuring performances concerning it leveraging Korea’s globally renowned e-procurement system. Furthermore, PPS will also share systems that support the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises in the public procurement market using cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data, which will be incorporated with the next-generation Korea ON-line E-Procurement System (KONEPS).

Lalita M. Moorty, Regional Director (World Bank), emphasized, “Procurement is important for sustainable economic growth in countries because it ensures that scarce resources get used well. This forum holds immense significance in facilitating the exchange of experiences and translating knowledge into action for the collective benefit of all participating countries.”

PPS Administrator Lim Ki-keun stated, “PPS has fostered Korea's sustainable development through procurement policies considering growth, small and medium-sized enterprises, carbon neutrality, solutions to climate change, women, and people with disabilities,” adding, "PPS will continue to disseminate Korea's advanced experiences to the World Bank, various international organizations, and procurement agencies in each country, assisting Asia-Pacific region to pioneer sustainable development in the global public procurement market.“
